The Federal Government has announced a $130 billion JobKeeper Payment initiative, aimed at supporting employers to retain their workforce while managing through the commercial disruption of Covid-19. This is expected to pass parliament in the coming days.
This latest announcement
revealed that, commencing 30 March 2020, the government will provide $1,500 per
fortnight per employee the business retains through the period. The
payment ensures eligible employers remain connected to their workforce and will
help business restart quickly when the crisis is over.

Initially, employers can register their interest in applying for the JobKeeper Payment via the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) from 30 March 2020. Subsequently, eligible employers will be able to apply for the scheme by mean of an online application. The first payments will be received by employers from the ATO in the first week of May.
